Over 170 athletes from 18 different clubs took part in the New Brunswick Indoor Championship in Oromocto on Feb. 16, including the UNB Varsity Reds. Despite the delay, the Varsity Reds preformed well against their competition.

Alexandra Black from UNBF led the Varsity Reds with 12.36m in shot put. Black improved on her seasonal best and brought herself to first place at the event in the AUS rankings.

For the men, Daniel Brown from UNBSJ ran 36.53s in the 300m, which tied him for second place in the AUS, only 0.10 seconds behind first place.

The UNB Varsity Reds took home a variety of medals including seven gold, seven silver, and three bronze.

Head coach, Jason Reindl was optimistic about the team’s performance, “Our athletes showed that they are right on track and ready to compete next week at the AUS Championships,” says Reindl. He says their goal is to finish in the top three for both men and women. They are also looking to improve and qualify for the CIS National Championships in Edmonton in March.
