The UNB Saint John men’s basketball team may only have a couple of games under their belt, but their players are already making waves.

First year Seawolf Nick Huggard has been part of that success, banking an impressive 57 points over the first two games of the season for the Seawolves, which lead him to be named the athlete of the week for the Seawolves and the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA).

According to head coach, Peter Vincent, the honour is well deserved, as Huggard is a strong player who puts himself where needed on the court to support his team.

“Nick is a true team player. He communicates, is friendly to everyone and shares the ball.”

“Having Nick play for us is a huge win for our basketball program.”

Huggard’s passion and drive for the sport started when he was five years old, and has been developing ever since.

“I started playing when I was five and immediately fell in love with the game. I came up through the Sussex basketball programs and played for Cape Breton University last year where we won the Atlantic University Sport championship,” said Huggard.

The Sussex native spent a year at Cape Breton University before transferring to UNB Saint John.

“Being named athlete of the week for both the University and the ACAA means a lot to me personally,” says Huggard, “especially in helping adjust to a new school and league”.
