Athletics assists students in health goals for the New Year

The ‘New Year, new me’ is all too familiar to most when January rolls around.  With that comes a slew of health related resolutions, one of which is “I should really go to the gym more”.

Well at UNB Saint John you are about to get that opportunity. The Department of Athletics, Recreation and Wellness have extended its upper fitness room hours in an effort to accommodate the sporadic school and work schedules of today’s students.

Beginning now, the upper fitness room in the athletic centre will be open daily, Monday through Sunday, from 6:30 in the morning until 11pm at night.Fitness Room 2

The decision to extend the hours came after some discussion over student feedback about the hours.

We are here for the students, and wellness is a priority for us,” says David Munro, Director of Athletics, Recreation and Wellness.

“Some students have classes all day, and to top that off they are working as well, so by the time they get any ‘me time’ it can be pretty late in the evening.”

The result of those discussions resulted in the extension of hours for the upper fitness room that Munro hopes will benefit students.

“We hope that by extending the hours it will accommodate those hectic student schedules.”

The fitness room is equipped with all the essentials for getting in to shape, including steppers, treadmills, weight machines and more.

The free weight room will maintain the same hours as the main gym and schedules are available via the department website at unb.ca/saintjohn/athletics.
