Saturday evening semi-final action at the 2014-15 ACAA Basketball Championships featured the first seeded Holland College Hurricanes versus the fourth placed St. Thomas University Tommies.

The first men’s game of the day at UNB Saint John, the Hurricanes came out ripping, posting 28 points in the first quarter alone to a miniscule 6 points posted by the Tommies.

To the Tommies credit, they bounced back in the second quarter to outscore the Hurricanes 22-18.

But the Hurricanes total field goals made percentage was telling, as they made over 50% of their shots in both halves..

Hurricanes DJ Wright, who hauled in 3 major awards at last nights banquet, including Player of the Year, banked 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists in the game, had an all-round game to help his teammates rack-up the points. Five Tommies players had points in the double digits.

While the Hurricanes and Tommies remained close in the third quarter, the Hurricanes swept themselves further ahead in the fourth quarter to put the game entirely out of reach.

In the 94-57 loss, Tommies’ Bradley Hovey notched a team-high 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

The number one nationally ranked Hurricanes will face the winner of the Chargers and Mounties semi-final tomorrow at 3:30pm. All 2014-15 ACAA Basketball Championship action can be watched online live for free at www.acaatv.ca
