Sunday

The women’s soccer squad took on Holland College at Terry Fox Sports Complex in Charlottetown in their last regular season game before the ACAA Championships.

The Seawolves were off to a rocky start, with the Hurricanes, Hannah Oatway scoring at the 29 minute mark.

Holland College Hurricanes had previously clinched first place overall, were good competition for the Seawolves before the ACAA Championships.

Saint John played well in the second half holding the Hurricanes to one goal however they couldn’t muster the offence needed going down to the Holland college 1-0.

Playoff Preview

The Seawolves end the season in fourth place, with 6 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw and advance to the ACAA Championships this weekend on October 31 to rematch the first place Hurricanes.

“This weekend we begin with a tough match against Holland College who are the first seed. At this stage of the season, you are mostly just focusing on one game at a time, although we do know that a spot at the National Championships is at stake” head coach Robert Mather commented.

While the Seawolves do not have a winning record against the Hurricanes, they showed they can compete well in the game this past weekend.

“In regards to preparing for Saturday, it is really only about us” said Mathers.

“As coaches, our message has been, that success comes from hard work and dedication to your goal, so we hope to see that on Saturday. Overall, we are looking forward to this coming weekend and are excited about the challenge ahead!”

Working hard all season, the UNB Saint John Seawolves are preparing for their first playoff appearance in four years.

The women’s semi-finals start 10am at Wickwire Turf field in Halifax, followed by the Championship game on Sunday at 11:30am.
