This coming week is the annual Winterpalooza at UNB Saint John Residence. Running February 22 through 28, the week is filled with lots of activities and events in hopes of spicing up residence life.

“It is important for students to take time out for themselves during the busyness of midterms, assignments, etc. These events could last between 30 minutes to an hour, which is a great study break! Also, winterpalooza is specific to residence, a time to celebrate being part in this community,” says Brittany Tabor, residence life coordinator remarked when asked about the Winterpalooza events.

Although some events may conflict with the ACAA Championship happening this weekend at UNB Saint John, Tabor stated “I really hope it doesn’t affect the turnout for ACAA Championships or our residence events. I understand that every student cannot make it to all the events (it’s a big time commitment) but that is why we have a wide range of activities to meet the needs of our students, something for everyone to pop by and enjoy”.

The events for the week include:

Monday: Pie your Residence Assistant (RA) and Residence Life Council (RLC) at 7pm with all money raised going to this year’s residence charity, the Saint John Regional Hospital. Bring some change down to the MPR and bid on some whip cream pie’s to put in the faces of some of the wonderful RA and RLC on residences.

Tuesday is Boston Pizza at 7pm. A family style dinner where students supply the ride, and residence supplies the pizza, salad and pop plus catching up with fellow students.

Wednesday is host to the residence version of  “minute to win it” at 7pm in the MPR. The good old fashion games night features a variety of friendly competitions, snacks, some laughs with neighbors, and some yet unannounced prizes.

Thursday the RLC has set up a deal with the Seadogs hockey team. Students can cheer on Saint John’s QMJHL hockey team with their residence family.  Supply your own ride and add dinner before or after and you’ve got a perfect Thursday night.  While the sign up date for tickets has ended, Students can get tickets can get tickets from the Seadogs box office.

Friday, is the famous Hallway Party. Enjoy a night of breaking the drinking in the hallways rule. The event tries to loosen some rules to help students get out of their dorms and meeting their neighbors in a social setting. The Hallway Party is classified as a bash night, so guests need to be signed in ahead of time in front of Brittany’s office in the Dunn.

Connor Moore, president of the RLC is excited for the week, adding, “my favorite event would be the hallway party. All of the events are a blast but the Hallway Party is the one residence tradition and always a great time. All events were carefully planned with a lot of time and effort!”

Saturday is Movie Night in the MPR starting at 7pm. A more relaxing night compared to the Hallway Party for those people still in need of recovery. The movie will be decided once everyone has arrived to the event, bring your own blanket forts, popcorn is provided.

Sunday, the final day of Winterpalooza, is an outdoor adventure and takes place at 2pm meeting outside of the Dunn front entrance to enjoy some Sunday fun, outdoor adventures and activities. No sign up is needed for this event, some of the activities will be snowshoeing, snowman making, sliding (if snow); or hiking, washers, etc (if no snow!); hot chocolate and a little trail mix will be provided for students!
