Event Roundup: September 12 to September 18

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here goes nothing: summer break is officially over. But here’s the good news; that doesn’t mean that the fun has to end! This year, the Baron is going to be providing a weekly roundup article of all of the events taking place on campus. To be posted on Monday mornings, it will be your essential guide to having a great time at UNBSJ, so make sure to check back every week!

Here are the events that you can take part in this week, organized into categories of interest for your convenience:

SRC:

  • First Class Bash: September 15th, 10:00pm – 2:00am, UNBSJ Quad. Come out and party with your peers! This year’s theme will be an “All White Glow Party”, so wear the brightest white clothing that you can find! Glow sticks will be provided by the SRC.
    • Admission: $10 (students), $15 (sign-ins)
    • Additional info: All attendees must be 19 years of age, and any students living in residence who plan on having guests stay with them must have said guest’s name(s) added to a list, so they may receive a temporary access pass.

Faculties:

  • SASE Faculty Night: September 13th, 12:00 – 2:00pm, Whitebone Lounge. An opportunity for students in the faculty of Science, Applied Science, Engineering (and Nursing) to meet with their professors outside of the classroom. Refreshments will be offered.
  • KPMG Information Session: September 14th, 1:00 – 2:30pm, Hazen Hall 225. Representatives from KPMG will be on campus to talk to BBA students interested in becoming CPAs. Co-op positions for the Winter 2018 term will be discussed.

Lorenzo Society:

  • Wayne Clifford Reading: September 14th, 5:30pm, Hazen Hall Lecture Theatre. Poet-in-Residence at the New Brunswick Museum, Wayne Clifford, will be reading from his latest book of poetry, Flying the Truck. A Q&A period will follow and refreshments will be provided.
    • Admission: FREE

Sports & Fitness:

 

  • 2017 Terry Fox Run: September 17th, 12:00 – 4:00pm, UNBSJ Quad. Everyone, regardless of age or athletic ability, is welcome to participate in the Terry Fox Walk/Run for cancer research. Opening ceremonies will take place at 12:30pm, and the Walk/Run will go from 1:00 – 4:00pm. The Run will be stroller/wheelchair accessible. Pets are welcome.

 

    • Admission: Free to participate, but fundraising and donations are strongly encouraged.
    • Additional info: the Walk/Run will be 5km long (two laps of 2.5km)
  • Seawolves Soccer: September 17th {Women’s game: 1:00pm} {Men’s game: 3:00pm}, Canada Games Stadium. The UNB Saint John Seawolves will be hosting the St. Thomas University Tommies.
    • Admission: Adults/Seniors = $5.00, Children/Students = FREE

General Interest:

  • Film Screening of Milk: September 18th, 6:30 – 9:00pm, Ganong Hall Lecture Theatre. There will be a special screening of the 2015 film Milk, which depicts “the universal perspective on the politics, commercialization, and controversies surrounding birth and infant feeding” (milkhood.com). A panel discussion with filmmaker, Noemi Weis, will follow the screening via Skype. Light refreshments will be available.
