Grow Up Already

Grow up already,
a simple phrase that we get lost in.
we are told all too often
that’s childish, that’s foolish
but that idea is really quite twisted.

We are holding on,
on to our vanishing youth
something we will take for granted.

Once we grow up we will want it all back,
elements of youth,
the endless fun,
not a single drop of worry,
all gone with a flip of a switch.

We will want to climb back down
to that life once so full of youth
but that rope,
that rope is cut

To reverse time,
something that is ever-changing,
that idea is impossible.
The wheels have turned,
we’ve grown up already.
