The campus bookstore is one of the best things about the university experience. It sells all the necessary materials that students need to get ready for their classes, midterms, and exams. After having the previous store close abruptly last year, UNB Saint John’s new campus store opened on Tuesday, September 7.

New store located in the Athletics Centre

The brand-new store is located in the G. Forbes Elliot Athletics Centre, room 112. University apparel such as t-shirts, hoodies, gifts, hats, and more can be found in the clothing section of the store. All different sizes are available for the students to cheer for UNB in style for every season. Other essential materials that can be found at the store, including certain class-assigned textbooks, small tech items, stationery items, school supplies, and bus passes.

Excitement for new store

The Director of Student Services, Sheldon MacLeod, is delighted to have the new bookstore available to the students and is hoping that this will be a meaningful student experience: “I am delighted to see the new campus store; the location is more central for students close to the Student Centre, Athletics, and the new Whitebone Pizzeria, in a building that has vibrancy and life. We’re happy that students can purchase so many items at the new campus store and, from the service to the branding, it really has a far more “Saint John” feel to it.”

No books on campus this semester

The Associate Vice-President, Laurelle LeVert, is looking forward to the new products and services the store will provide in the future:  “Soon we will have cold drinks and snack items… In time we hope to also be a venue for some locally produced items and gifts. For textbooks, this term we continue to be contracted with Follett for all course materials so have partnered with the [Follett] UNB Fredericton Bookstore to provide books and course materials…  We know this is not an ideal situation, but it is only temporary for this semester while we transition our campus store to full service.  Students will be able to get their books and course materials at the Saint John Campus Store for this coming winter term.”

Online store still available

Though at this time the store does not carry assigned textbooks, they can be ordered for the Fall 2021 semester through the online UNB Bookstore. Orders that have been placed before September 17, 2021 can be shipped to the bookstore for free (the shipping fees will automatically be removed on the last stage of the checkout process), but the shipping costs will be applied after the specified date. It usually takes four to six business days for the ordered textbook to arrive at the Saint John Campus. Books can also be delivered directly to a home address with a flat rate of $7.50 for shipping (for international shipments, approval must be given for the additional shipping costs). All purchase returns must be coordinated and communicated through the Fredericton campus.

Rental Textbooks & Latest Information

Rental textbooks are another option given to students as a more cost-efficient alternative through the online store. Students who rent textbooks for the Fall 2021 semester must have them returned to the bookstore by Friday, December 17 to avoid extra charges.
