There’s so much to tell you about what’s been going on this past month!

Wolfgang Düchtel/The Baron

The most important thing that happened this month was our board meeting. Although some had to attend virtually, we had our first in person board meeting since the pandemic started! It was great to meet people who I had only ever seen on my computer screen.

It was a long meeting, but every bit of it was important to the operation of the Baron. We introduced two new board members to the team; David Irish and Madison Edgett. Additionally, we discussed continuity policy implementations and the administration of transition packages that I, as Editor-in-Chief, and the Baron’s Office Manager, Tamara Holmes, will be working on throughout the year to be approved by the board before April.

I just wrapped up a meeting with the Canadian University Press (CUP) and discussed the various benefits we receive from them as members and we discussed their annual conference. Although we do not know where the conference is taking place, Tamara and I will be attending it in February 2023. It will be a great opportunity for us to learn about governance, the internal workings of running a university student press, and learn more about highlighting the important stories that exist on university campuses. We are very excited to meet other university press executives from big and small schools from across the country!

We’ve welcomed many students into our office this month, so we appreciate you all taking us up on our offer from my last letter! Our door is almost always open, so stop by any time to meet our wonderful staff and if you have any questions or ideas for our paper. As you see, we have some lovely plants and a comfy couch in the office!

We are in the middle of renovating our website. That being said, our staff page is having a makeover. I’d like to thank our wonderful IT support, Wolfgang Düchtel for all of his help this month with the techy things that I don’t understand! We will keep you all updated on our renovation as it progresses.
