What does being black mean to me?

Being black means being part of a stronger community that is outside of myself

Being black means power on all fronts

Being black means watching your surroundings closely especially in public

Being Black means my dark skin is beautiful

Being Black means not just jumping over hurdles but overcoming

Being a black woman means being treated less than or as a someone who needs to be concurred

Being a black woman means getting uncomfortably stared at for no reason

Being a black woman means my hair no matter what style it is, is mine and mine only

Being a black person means having to brush off microaggressions every time someone feels “uncomfortable” around you

Being a black person means being accused of doing something you never did

Being black means unity in the eyes of the past colonizers

Being black means loving one another

Being black means, everyone has truth and knowledge is power!

You know what… I’m glad I’m black because BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL in all circumstances and ways!
