Along with the many new additions and changes to the UNB Saint John campus happening this school year, students may have noticed the new Arts Society as one of them. When asked about the creation of the Arts Society Connor Stevens, the President of the new society, said:  The Arts Society was created due to the fact that all other programs had their own society but not the Arts students. So I felt it was necessary to fill in the gap which led me to founding the Arts Society.”

So far, the Arts Society has over 50 members in only the first two weeks into the fall semester! They hope to keep growing fast as the school year goes on and to provide more and more opportunities for not only the Arts students but also the entire campus.

The three main goals of the new Arts Society are to represent the Faculty of Arts as a whole, to provide events for students without a society catered to their major, and to have a group for students to express their passions and interests. To add onto this point, the Arts Society would like to emphasize that the Arts Society is NOT just for Arts students, as the President said, “If a Business, Science or Health student have an interest in general fun events or Arts programs like History or Sociology then they will still have fun at our events!” So, everyone is welcome to join in on all the fun activities the Arts Society has in store for this school year.

Currently the Arts society is very busy fulfilling their goals and planning events for students. A couple of examples of events that are soon to come are de-stress events, academic/exam tips, what I can do with my arts degree, internship/career connections, plus many more fun and major events to come so students should keep an eye out for those! To keep up with future events students should check out the Arts Society’s Instagram @artssoc_unbsj.

Paige is a third-year Arts student and is majoring in English. When she’s not at school you can find Paige playing hockey, thrifting, reading, listening to music, or smothering her cat in unwanted affection. She loves literature, plants, true crime, and will talk your ear off about her cat or the book she’s reading.
