READING TIME: < 1 MINUTES

The University of New Brunswick will be hosting two public sessions to discuss the university’s first, ongoing development which will ensure to reduce greenhouse gases in the Climate Change Action Plan which will be addressed at the Saint John Campus, Monday January 29th at 12-13.30 hours and again at 14.30-16.00 hours in the Whitebone Lounge. Refreshments will be provided.

The province of New Brunswick has ‘committed to a 10 percent reduction’of greenhouse gas emissions from the 1990 levels by 2020. As a result, the university is set to implement this Climate Change Action Plan in 2019, and recognizes that not only is climate change a health risk to students and faculty members on and off campus, but also that it negatively effects the beauty of New Brunswick’s natural environment.

UNB is one of the few campuses in the region to implement a formal plan to address climate change. According to George MacLean, UNB’s Vice-President Academic, ‘developing our own plan…[will] meet or exceed the 2020 goals’ set by the province.

Students, faculty, and the public are being urged to attend this event to learn and propose suggestions to this ongoing development which will ultimately create a better, sustainable environment for all.

Students and faculty members who are unable to attend but want to learn more and provide feedback, can submit ideas and strategies to sustain@unb.ca and can also go to unb.ca/green for more information regarding UNB’s Climate Initiative.
