Letter from the Editor: April 2025

Kylie Mackenzie

READING TIME: 3 MINUTES

Hello UNB Saint John!

As you may have noticed around campus, our Winter semester 2025 print copy of The Baron is now available! This is our fourth edition since we began printing physical copies of our paper last year. I am beyond excited to announce that next year, we will be printing two physical copies a semester! One during reading week and one at the end of the semester. The enthusiasm we experienced over our last print edition inspired us to take the next step in our physical newspaper journey. Thank you for all of the support we have received from our UNB Saint John students, staff, and faculty!

I am also thrilled to announce that I will be returning for a second year as the Editor in Chief of The Baron next year! I cannot wait to continue helping our amazing paper grow and change.

My first year as Editor in Chief of the Baron has been an indescribable experience. I would like to thank my fantastic staff at the Baron for all of their hard work, motivation, and dedication this past year. You have all made this year one to remember!

Thank you to our incredibly talented writing team for their truly impressive work this year, and I hope you all enjoy reading their articles as much as I have.

Bailey Young/The Baron

I want to give a shoutout to all of those who contributed in some way or another this year:

Isabelle Fleming, Tyler Williams, Bailey Young, Claire Bentley, Jonathan Bruce, Matthew Heans, Casie Turrell, Khushi Chauhan, Paige Fletcher, Elizabeth Williamson, Abigail Legacy, Kayla Dela Cruz, Ridhima Dixit, Sarah Harrigan, and Will Foley.

In January of this year, the Baron hosted its first-ever campus event called “Breakfast with the Baron.” Thank you to everyone who stopped by! We will absolutely be continuing this tradition next year so keep an eye on our social media!

In March, our Copy Editor Isabelle and I travelled to Hamilton Ontario, to attend the NASH87 conference hosted by the Canadian University Press. This was an unforgettable learning experience, and we have lots of great new ideas to implement next year. Stay tuned!

As some of you may remember, the Baron staff and I have decided our mascot needs a name, and we wanted YOU, the students of UNB Saint John, to decide!

We are so excited to announce that the name chosen is………. Byron the Baron!

Elizabeth Williamson/The Baron

Thank you to everyone who voted! We are so excited to finally give a name to our iconic mascot.

Just as a reminder, this will be the Baron's last article until we return after the summer break. We will be back at the beginning of fall term with many new exciting updates! If you want to reach out to us over the break, feel free to email me at editor@thebaron.ca.

Best of luck on all of your exams and have a wonderful summer UNB Saint John!

Kylie Mackenzie, EIC.
