Samridhi Girdhar/The Baron
They soar in dreams, they cry at night,
They burn with hope, then dim their light.
Oh, twittering birds never fly.
Like humans caged within the skin,
Afraid to lose, afraid to win.
We ache, we bleed, we wonder why
We flap our wings, but never fly.
We chase the wind, we long for more,
Then lock ourselves behind a door.
We speak of dreams, of love, of sky,
But watch them pass, and never try.
I want to run, I want to scream,
To leap into some distant dream.
But what if I fall and break?
What if the sky was a mistake?
What if I jump and no one’s there?
No hand to hold, no soul to care.
The fear grips my lungs, my chest.
But still, I hope. I want what’s best.
I don’t know how. I don’t know when.
But I will try. And try again.
One day I’ll rise, spread wings, and cry:
“This twittering bird, she learned to fly.”
