Daylight Savings

READING TIME: 2 MINUTES

Sunlight be my easy lover.

Do you know that it is me you cover

Or have you come here for just anyone?

Stay with me until the hour is late.

Linger in my doorway and just wait.

There were times I thought I’d never again see the sun.

It is two o’clock in the morning and I am not tired

Though I certainly should be.

Regardless, I cannot sleep.

I have been wired.

Since you came back to me

I need no sleep, you’re like a dream.

All of the sudden the world’s gone brighter.

Once again the sun sets higher

And the birds are coming back.

The snow is melting,

The ice is breaking,

I can hear it begin to crack.

With daylight savings

Time’s fast forwarding

And finally, I’m reorienting.

It is me you’re saving

From the disordering

I was just bordering.

The sun sets past seven

Now and heaven

Is so near.

My winter fever has broken.

I’ve found hope again

Since you’ve been here.

Springing forward

It has stopped snowing.

Looking out the window the sun is showing.

I’m barreling toward

Something worth knowing

The world is green again and growing.

As long as you are able, stay and warm my bones.

As long as you’re up there is no sense in going home.

So please stay out into the evening.

When the sun shines there is laughter,

Music, dancing, and I am enraptured.

With you here I am capable of reasoning.

Spring’s arrival cuts me some slack

When April showers

Bring May flowers.

Like a train that is righted on the track

I can find the strength overpower

When seed beds again must be tilled by the plower.

The clocks have moved ahead

And though in the morning I might want to stay in bed

I know the light will soothe my mind.

The sunlight reminds me that I am here.

Beckon me onward, I have no fear.

I have weathered one more wintertime.
