Seawolves basketball: Women drop game to Holland College

Holland College opened the game strong, leading the Seawolves 23-9 after the first quarter.The first place Hurricanes continued to control the game finishing up 79-48.

Tiffany McLong, first year business student and guard with the Seawolves spoke about the game, saying, “our goals were to keep them from attacking the basket and shoot from outside more.”

Points off turnovers and second chances gave Holland College 48 of their 79 points, compared to only 14 points for the Seawolves.

Top contributor for the Seawolves was McLong scoring four, grabbing seven rebounds and three steals. Leading the team in scoring we see Allyson McLaughlin with 11 while converting on 5-6 from the free throw line.

From the other side the Hurricanes had three players reaching double figures. Top scorers were from Ashley Moss with 10, Jazlin Barker 11 and Jenea Barrett contributing 14 to obtain the win.

“We know they are the best team in the league but we held our own and coach was happy with what we did. We improved, we tried our best and that’s all we can ask for.” says Mclong

The Women’s Seawolves team now fall to 1-8 on the season and will be looking to regroup as they welcome the 6-4 MSVU Mystics at 3pm, Saturday, January 23.
