The Chess Club received the 2019-2020 SRC award “Small Club/Society of the Year” for their efforts and achievements.

The club also won 4th place in the Silver division for the Canadian University Chess Championship in 2021.

Statement from the Club’s Founder & President

Mila Veljanovska, the Founder and President of the UNBSJ Chess Club, said that by running this club, she wants to share her passion with fellow students from all different backgrounds and chess abilities.

During the first few years of running the club, she was very impressed with the number of female participants in the chess games given that chess is a traditionally male-dominated game.
