The Baron is hosting a weekly series introducing readers to the clubs and societies on campus here at UNB.
The Green Society brings awareness and initiatives to environmental problems and promotes solutions to students at UNB Saint John.
Activities and events
The Green Society organizes many fun and useful activities for all students throughout the year.
This includes outdoor activities, maintenance and clean-up of the Tucker Park walking trails, a recycling program, and much more. They also hold sustainability workshops, community clean-ups, and were part of UNB’s Sustainability month in October.
In the past, they have hosted environmental seminars, contests, and giveaways.
The vision
The Green Society organizes events according to its vision and ideals for UNB Saint John students and the campus. They aim to create a campus where more products are recycled and composted, as well as increasing our renewable energy.
Their vision also involves students – they aim to make students and staff aware of their environment to motivate them to follow more environmentally-friendly measures.
Additionally, they envision a future where all students are able to afford and access healthy food and textbooks when currently affording both is a problem for many students.
Statement from The Green Society
The Green Society’s mission to improve our campus for students and staff includes reducing UNB Saint John’s ecological footprint, increasing energy efficiency on campus, generating continual public awareness, and supporting accessible and sustainable education for all students.
